Wordpress 2.7 Is Released!

We just talked about Wordpress 2.7 RC2 yesterday, and it seems like the final version of Wordpress 2.7 had been released today!

You may go download the final version of Wordpress 2.7, or use the built in update tool to upgrade from the release candidate versions.

Once you upgrade to version 2.7, that means you can upgrade to later version without using FTP. All you have to do is use the built in update tool!

So, grab your Wordpress 2.7 now!

Wordpress 2.7 Release Candidate 2

We had tried Wordpress 2.7 RC1 last week and here comes RC2 version. Since the release candidate versions are pretty stable, you may upgrade your Wordpress to RC2 if you haven’t upgrade to RC1 last week.

For those users who had upgraded to RC1, you can use the built in updater to download and install RC2 on your system.

Normally before the final version release, a software will have few release candidate versions. So, i guess we may get our final Wordpress 2.7 before 2009. Let us upgrade and enjoy the new features now!

Wordpress 2.7 Release Candidate 1

Wordpress development team announced the release of Wordpress 2.7 RC1, which means that they are in the final development before the release of 2.7.

Before the release of RC1, we have gone through three beta version and saw a lot of new features of Wordpress 2.7. The release of this RC1 will includes a lot of bug fixes and new menu icons.

As shown in the screenshot, Wordpress 2.7 has a new Dashboard design. I believe current Wordpress users may need some time to get familiar with the new interface and also new features in Wordpress 2.7.

In my coming posts, i will try to go through some of the new features in Wordpress 2.7. So, make sure you follow or subscribe me!

Wordpress 2.6.5 Is Released

While we are still waiting the release of Wordpress 2.7, we may need to upgrade our Wordpress to version 2.6.5 immediately, as there are some security issues in version 2.6.3.

According to Wordpress blog,

The security issue is an XSS exploit discovered by Jeremias Reith that fortunately only affects IP-based virtual servers running on Apache 2.x. If you are interested only in the security fix, copy wp-includes/feed.php and wp-includes/version.php from the 2.6.5 release package.

You may choose to download the complete Wordpress 2.6.5 package or download the individual files and the replace with your current 2.6.3 installation:

Wordpress 2.7 Beta 3 Has Been Released

You may download your Wordpress 2.7 Beta 3 now. There are 160 changes in this version. If you are using one of the previous beta version, simply go to Tools -> Update to update to the latest beta version.

The changes include:

  • Numerous style improvements and refinements.
  • All admin notices now go under the page title.
  • PHP Notice fixes.
  • Dashboard widget options now properly save.
  • Menu fixes.
  • New design for Quick Edit.
  • Canonical feed URL fixes.
  • Walker fixes.
  • An update for Hello Dolly.
  • Plugin installer updates.
  • Numerous font updates.
  • Updated login logo.
  • Switch position of “Save Draft” and “Preview” buttons in publish module.
  • File upload support for MS Office 2007+ file formats.
  • Media upload buttons won’t show if the user doesn’t have the upload capability.
  • Canonical redirects only do yes-www or no-www redirection for domains.
  • Shift-click checkbox range selection improvement.
  • Add New User page now separate.
  • Tag suggest only suggests tags (not other taxonomy terms).
  • QuickPress shows “Submit for Review” if user cannot publish.
  • Private posts/pages, and password-protected posts/pages are rolled into new “Visibility” section of publish module.
